On September 9th at approximately 9:35 AM, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a 2 vehicle accident at Hwy 3 and K22 south (10 miles west of Le Mars). The sheriff’s office along with Le Mars Fire/Rescue and Ambulance responded. Vehicle #1 was northbound on K22 and failed to see or stop for a stop sign with Hwy 3 and K22. Vehicle #2 was south bound on Hwy 3 preparing to turn left/east on to Hwy 3. The driver of vehicle #1 tried to take evasive action but contact was made by vehicle #2 into the left front wheel area of #1. The driver of #1 was pinned in the vehicle and had to be removed by mechanical means by Le Mars Fire/ Rescue.
Vehicle #1 is a 2002 Chevy Silverado picking being operated by Gary Johnson of Sioux City. The vehicle is listed as totaled and Johnson was taken to Unity Point Sioux City with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Vehicle #2 is a 2010 Peterbuilt tractor pulling a bottom dump trailer owned by Henningsen Construction from Atlantic, Iowa. Vehicle #2 was operated by John Davis of Elliott, Iowa. Davis had a complaint of pain but was not transported from the scene. Vehicle #2 has functional damage of approximate $5000.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa DOT, Le Mars Fire/Rescue and Ambulance. Charges are pending at this time for fail to obey a stop sign. |
