Fatality accident

On 1/24/17 at approximately 1232 hours, the Plymouth County Communications Center received several calls regarding a motor vehicle accident just east of Le Mars on Highway 3.  When emergency personnel arrived, it was determined to be two vehicles involved.  Injuries were reported also.

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2000 Buick was westbound on Highway 3 and the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the ice and snow covered roadway.  A silver 2010 Chevrolet Traverse was eastbound on Highway 3.  The Buick traveled into the eastbound lane and was struck by the Chevrolet.

Both drivers were taken to Floyd Valley Hospital, with the driver of the Buick sustaining life-threatening injuries.  The driver of the Chevrolet sustained injuries but not life-threatening.

The driver of the Buick, a female from Le Mars was pronounced deceased at the Floyd Valley Hospital.  Names of the drivers are not being released until next of kin have been notified.

The investigation continues by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office, the Iowa State Patrol and the Plymouth County Medical Examiner.

The Le Mars Police Department, Le Mars Ambulance, Le Mars Fire & Rescue and the Iowa DOT assisted at the scene.
