Severson semi accident

On 7-19-2017, the Plymouth County Communications Center received a 911 call of a semi that overturned. The location given was Highway #60 and Highway #75.

LeMars Fire and Ambulance and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched. The semi was located in the north ditch of the Highway #75 bypass on ramp next to Fedders Marine and RV.

The driver was initially trapped inside the semi and removed by LeMars Fire/Rescue. He was transported to Floyd Valley Hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

Initial investigation shows the semi, owned by Cliff Veissman INC, was southbound on Hwy #60 and took the 120 off ramp. The driver, Arnold Severson, 77, of Clear Lake, SD, stated that he was unable to locate the brake and went through the stop sign of the off ramp, crossed Highway #75 and went into the north ditch of the bypass on ramp. The semi and trailer, which was loaded with corn syrup, then tipped onto the passenger side.

Also assisting at the scene was the LeMars Police Department.

Investigation is continuing.
