Menke accident

On 8-28-2019 at 12:22 pm, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a single vehicle accident with unknown injuries on the north edge of Merrill on Highway 75. The vehicle was reported to have gone into the West Branch of the Floyd River. The driver was identified as Sally Menke, age 48 of Sioux City, IA. The vehicle was a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. Menke’s vehicle was southbound on Hwy 75 and entered the northwest ditch and then the Floyd River. The accident is still under investigation, but it is believed that the accident was due to a medical condition. The vehicle was valued at $1500 and is considered a total loss.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Merrill and Hinton Police Departments, the LeMars and Merrill Ambulance, and LeMars and Merrill Fire Department. The LeMars Fire Department used special equipment to lift the driver from the river bank due to very dangerous terrain. The LeMars Ambulance transported Menke to the Floyd Valley Hospital. The vehicle was removed by Stockton Towing who also used special equipment due to the vehicle’s dangerous location and terrain.
