On May 12th at 0631 the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office was advised of a 2 vehicle accident with injuries at Hwy 60 and mile marker 2 (150th St) just north of Le Mars. Upon arrival a 2016 Dodge Dart was located in the traveled portion of the roadway with extensive frontend damage. The driver of the vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle by Le Mars Fire/Rescue. The driver, a 62-year-old male, was taken directly to a Sioux City hospital with serious injuries. His condition is not known at this time. His vehicle is listed as totaled.
The other vehicle was a semi-tractor trailer with the semi owned by Twisted H Trucking of rural Le Mars. The trailer is owned by Petersen Trucking of Le Mars. The semi was being operated by Miles Heady, age 25 of rural Le Mars.
Both vehicles were southbound on Hwy 60. The semi was preparing to turn west onto 150th St and had slowed to about 5 MPH. For unknown reasons the car failed to change lanes and struck the rear of the trailer. This action caused functional damage to the trailer and totaled the car.
The accident remains under investigation. The name of the driver will be released at a later time pending notification of family members.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Le Mars Ambulance, Fire/Rescue and Police and the Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
