10-50 PI - Semi vs Train

On June 17, 2021 at 1:30 p.m., the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office was advised of an accident involving a semi and a train at west Le Mars, 2 miles west of Le Mars on Hwy 3.  An eastbound semi struck the side of a northbound BNSF train.  The investigation is ongoing.

We will confirm that one (1) person suffered serious injuries and was flown from the scene by Wings medical helicopter to a Sioux City hospital.  No other information is being released pending notification by family members. 

The Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Le Mars Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, IA DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa DOT Road Maintenance, and Le Mars Fire, Rescue and Ambulance.  The investigation is being led by the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office/Le Mars Police Department and Iowa State Patrol Accident Investigation Team.
