On 10/7/10 at 1628 hours, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received several 911 calls regarding a personal injury accident on Highway 75 near the Sioux County line.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency personnel encountered several vehicles involved in a motor vehicle crash. A total of seven vehicles were involved and nine persons were injured. Emergency crews from Sioux Center, Maurice, Orange City and Le Mars responded to the accident scene. Injured parties were taken to Floyd Valley Hospital, Orange City Hospital and the Sioux Center Hospital.
At this time, investigators have determined that vehicles #2 through #6 were stopped facing north on Highway 75, waiting for a construction pilot car to escort them north. As they were stopped and waiting, vehicle #1, a semi truck headed north, failed to stop and collided with vehicle #2 which in turn began a chain reaction into vehicles #3 through #6.
It is unknown why the driver of #1 did not see or slow down for the other vehicles. The area was under construction and clearly marked ahead of the construction zone. |
